We stand at the edge, looking into the abyss below—an infinite void that invites us to fall or to fly. The fear of the precipice holds a strange power; terror seduces us. No, this is not some perverse fantasy but the reality of every step before our foot meets solid ground, reflected in the emotions of our body. How much pleasure can we endure?

FREE FALL is a journey into the unnameable—into a space untouched by the binary logic of thought. Like a Möbius strip, if we look closer, we will see that both sides are mere illusions of the same thing. Here, we encounter the body that speaks to us—a body stripped of social markers and gender identity, revealing only the human essence. We replace the question “Who am I?” with “How am I?”

Marion Darova studied Philosophy at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski. From 2008 to 2011, she pursued Directing for Drama Theatre at NATFA Krastyo Sarafov. In 2015, she completed a one-year training program in contemporary dance at Derida Port Derida.

As a performer, she has appeared in: Silent Weapon (nominated for the Icarus Award for Contemporary Dance & Performance, 2015), Zen Play, Sinner (winner of the Icarus Award for Contemporary Dance & Performance, 2017), Miss Julie – choreographed by Zhivko Zhelyazkov for Derida Company.

She made her choreographic debut in 2016 with Mainstream, which was selected for the Voda and Antistatic festivals in 2017 and 2018. In 2017, she participated in the Bulgarian showcase at Aerowaves, a European festival for contemporary dance and performance, with Trauma.

Her 2018 premiere, Corpus Meum, aimed to provoke debate on euthanasia legalization and was selected for the Antistatic platform in 2020. Her performance Hating Machine explores the genealogy of hatred and its transformation into ideological groupthink; it was featured at the ACT Festival in 2019.

As a performer, she collaborated with the Dutch company United Cowboys for a biotope performance at the opening of the ACT Festival (2019). In 2020, she participated in a joint exhibition by the Bulgarian Fund for Women with the installation Dissolving, inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s film Persona.

Marion has also worked as a choreographer in theatre, collaborating with Ivan Dobchev on New Bible (2018) and Malin Krastev on The Sound and the Fury (2020), a project with his students at Luben Groys Theatre College, where she teaches.

Her authorial project WO MAN, co-created with Martina Apostolova, premiered in November 2020 and won the Icarus Award for Contemporary Dance & Performance in 2021.
